The magic of our brand new Christmas book for 2024!
MGN book creator, Kevin Tyler, tells us why he loved the Gingerbread concept for this book so much!
There is a classic fairytale, you may already remember, about a runaway gingerbread man, first printed back in 1875. For our new personalised Christmas book for 2024, I wanted to take the very Christmassy concept of gingerbread, and turn it into a brand new story book kids would adore.
My own little one is just 4 years old and we love making gingerbread biscuits every Christmas time; it has become a tradition now already. We let her decorate the gingerbread biscuits in anyway she decides and she gets very excited whenever we talk about baking gingerbread men this year.
The book even includes a simple recipe at the back to bake your own gingerbread man
The story differs from the original tale in that our gingerbread man comes to life on Christmas Eve and wakes the little one; your own child in the story. He then whisks them off on a magical journey to a land of wild candy forests, villages made of sweets and chocolate roofs; with reindeers, elves and dancing snowmen to join in the fun.
We kept the book deliberately short to just 24 pages, with each spread just having just four lines of rhyming story text. A lot of the text is personalised to the child using their first name, hometown and even the family member helping them bake. Our books are typically bought for very young children, and keeping the attention span of a little one needs a short story with bright and beautiful illustrations.
Now our wonderful illustrations have a story all of their own, with the talented Svitlana Vivchar having to produce them under very difficult circumstances, being from Ukraine. Maybe a whole other story about that in the future.

As always we recommend the hardback book if this is to be treasured as a long term family keepsake. Did you know we use a special PUR glue to make sure they are much more hard wearing and should last a lifetime, if handled correctly. Well worth the £4.75 upgrade!
