Special books from childhood will transport you back to a magical time and have the potential to become a lifelong treasured possession.
Now, a new personalised book, called My Given Name, aims to become a firm childhood favourite. It has been created and written by Tamworth born Kevin Tyler. “It has taken me 5 long months from concept to completion and I have been working late into the night virtually 7 days a week. It has been a real passion to complete and I have worked with an incredible illustrator Pushan Chakravarty, who has converted my story into the most amazing pictures.”
The book follows the magical journey of Bindee, a stork who is given the task of delivering a birth certificate to a wizard who lives at the top of Given Mountain. Unfortunately Bindee believes he can’t fly, so he decides to walk up the mountain to collect his newborn. On his journey along the jungle paths he meets lots of new animal friends. On completing his journey the wizard asks for the child’s given name . . . a name that is only revealed through the friends Bindee meets. For example, he may meet a Joyous Jackrabbit, an Adorable Aardvark, a Caring Cheetah and a Knowledgeable Koala to spell out J.A.C.K.
In addition to providing the letters of a child’s given name, the characters reinforce positive affirmations to the child. These messages contained within book are designed to help introduce positive thought patterns to children and build self-esteem.
The book is also the first of its type to offer the opportunity to personalise by ethnicity, as well as by gender. My Given name wanted to take a lead by representing the cultural diversity of young children in the UK and allowing the child to identify more closely with the story. The buyer is presented with 4 different newborn characters and can select the newborn that most resembles the ethnicity of their child.
